It is not my job!

Mar 2, 2022

You see someone walking past a shred of used paper and not picking it up! What would you actually do in a similar situation? Would you think it's not your job, or would you pick it up?

We often have to get someone in our organization to do something that is not in their job description! As managers, we have to be careful not to confuse enthusiasm and skills.  So how do you avoid saying to yourself, why did I let this happen?

A leader must have managerial and emotional intelligence and understand when and how to lead his team to keep people accountable.

How would you react to seeing an employee walk past a scrap of used paper, not picking it up? Is it his/her job? Which company culture would make you more proud? Remember! Either you design your culture, or it will be created by default by accumulating the behaviors you have let pass.
